In the final phase of the Miami Grand Prix, there was some tension between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, who was able to close the gap to the Dutchman due to a late safety car. Jos Verstappen feared at that moment that his son had lost the victory.
"What an insanely good result for Max in Miami," Verstappen opens his column for Verstappen.com. "And that after a difficult start of the weekend." The Red Bull Racing driver had to rely largely on the third free practice session in finding the right set-up, as he struggled with problems on Friday.
Exciting final phase in Miami
The final stage of the race was exciting for a while, after the gap to Leclerc went up in smoke due to a late safety car. "Max was struggling for a moment, you could really see he was fighting," continued Verstappen, who did briefly fear that Leclerc would manage to get past the RB18. He adds that at such a moment, however, Max knows exactly what he is doing.
"To be honest, I did expect Charles Leclerc to pass," Verstappen admits. Due to the DRS zones and the cornering speed of the F1-75, the Red Bull driver struggled to pull a gap to his rival, but he managed to hold on to the lead.
