'Red Bull and Perez have started talks on contract extension'
- GPblog.com
Sergio Perez has started strongly in his second season at Red Bull Racing. Something that also has not escaped team boss Christian Horner. It is reported that the first talks about a contract extension have already begun.
Perez forces contract extension
Perez has 66 points behind his name and two second places after five races in 2022. The Mexican drives continuously at the front and can provide support to teammate Max Verstappen. Therefore, at the moment Perez seems to be the ideal second driver at Red Bull.
According to journalist Jenna Fryer, new talks have already begun to extend Perez's expiring contract at the end of this season. She said this via Twitter. However, she says that both Red Bull and Perez are in no hurry to extend the contract.
No second chance for Gasly
Contract extension for Perez would mean that Pierre Gasly would not be able to make his hoped-for move to Red Bull's main team. The Frenchman showed excellent results at AlphaTauri in recent seasons, but 2022 is going awry for now.
#F1: After the race, @SChecoPerez said talks have started with @redbullracing on a new contract but said neither side is in a hurry to get a deal done.
