Ferrari will continue with Carlos Sainz until the end of 2024. Both parties jointly announced this on Thursday morning. According to the Spaniard, it was by no means complicated to work it out together, he tells Speedweek.com.

Sainz made the switch to Ferrari at the beginning of 2021. Where he struggled to connect with his teammate Charles Leclerc at the beginning of the season, he managed to prove himself and beat the Monegasque throughout the season.

Sainz looked at rumours from a distance

During the start of the current season, Sainz once again struggled. Leclerc gained a whopping 71 points during the first three Grands Prix, while the Spanish driver has just under half that number. Prior to the season, however, Ferrari and Sainz had already agreed on extending the commitment.

"The whole negotiations went smoothly, especially after the good first year together. We already agreed in the winter. We thought that the weekend in Imola would be the best moment to announce the new contract," says Sainz, who saw many rumours pass by. "I sat comfortably at home and laughed heartily about it."
