The first qualifying session of the 2022 season is behind us and that means we can once again take stock of the qualifying duels. In the mutual duels between the teammates, there are actually no big surprises to note, except for Nico Hulkenberg. The replacement for the isolating Sebastian Vettel managed to beat Lance Stroll.

Remarkable as it is, Hulkenberg had not done any miles with the AMR22 until Friday. As a test and reserve driver Hulkenberg already has a lot of experience with the new car thanks to the simulator, but that is of course very different from driving it on the track. In any case, Stroll did not show his best side.

Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris were as expected faster than their teammates. Certainly for Daniel Ricciardo that is nothing to worry about, as he missed the entire second week of testing after having to go into isolation following a positive coronavirus test. Furthermore, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly, Kevin Magnussen, Alexander Albon and Valtteri Bottas won the battle with their teammates.
