On February 23, Formula 1 officially kicks off the season with the first week of testing in Barcelona. Before the first day begins, the teams will announce which driver will appear on track on which day. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen will be driving the full first day.

First real test

It is an exciting time for teams and drivers. During the very first test it will become clear if the new cars work as expected. Therefore most teams do a shakedown before the first official test. During this test a hundred kilometer drive is allowed and the teams can already discover the first teething problems.

Many teams choose not to let a driver drive for a whole day, although the Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri teams do so. Verstappen will drive the full first day, while Sergio Perez will drive day two. On day three, Verstappen and Perez will share the car. Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Alpine are the only teams who still have to announce their line ups.
