In the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, almost everyone has had their say about the events in the closing stages of the race. Who we haven't heard from is race director Michael Masi himself. Former FIA president Jean Todt is even worried about the Australian.

FIA investigation into Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Masi has been under fire for weeks because of his decisions surrounding the safety car in the final laps of the race in Abu Dhabi. The race director is said to have acted incorrectly and thus to have disadvantaged Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The FIA is currently investigating the events. However, the results of the investigation will not be presented until March 18, two days before the opening race in Bahrain.

Todt worried about Masi

At the Autosport Awards ceremony, Jean Todt was asked about Masi. In front of the Sky Sports cameras, he revealed that he has remained in contact with the race director and that he is worried about the impact that everything is having on him. " I have spoken to him, not specifically about what happened in Abu Dhabi, but about him as a human being," the former FIA president revealed. "I hope he will be fine."

Mercedes was steadily increasing the pressure on the FIA since Abu Dhabi. Lewis Hamilton's team is even said to have called for Masi's resignation as race director. The long silence around Hamilton would also have served as pressure. Whether there are actual consequences for Masi as race director will become clear in March.
