Toyota to be the owners of Haas F1? This is what the future looks like!
- Ludo van Denderen
Day by day, the 2026 regulations come closer in F1, seeing the most sweeping overhaul change in decades. With Audi (completing the transition from Sauber) and Cadillac (the 11th team), two new faces will join the competition as well. Perhaps that could be the ideal moment for Toyota to return, after already starting a technical partnership with Haas F1 in the '24 season.
In the last few months of last season, after the partnership was announced, it became increasingly clear that Haas and Toyota had strengthened their ties considerably: Not only was a Toyota driver Ryo Hirakawa could test in the Haas car, the logo of Toyota Gazoo Racing (the company's motorsport division) is prominently displayed on the F1 cars and, of course, there is a technical partnership.
Team boss Komastu reacts to a foreshadowed Haas sale
With many manufacturers joining, the partnershir could just be the first step of a full takeover by the Japanese, as they already have the first foot inside the door. According to the American's team principal, Ayao Komatsu, there is no intention of the happening, as he ruled out the first step already. "To start with, Gene's not selling the team."
"Every single time he's asking me, how can we go better? What can we do to make the car go faster? He's not interested in selling. I believe he had so many offers, actually, but he refused every single one of them. So the team's not up for sale. And then we haven't even spoken about a first refusal or anything like that. That's not being on the topic. It is a long term, very long term," the team principal concluded.
