Nyck de Vries had an encouraging start to the season in Saudi Arabia. The Dutchman immediately won the first race on the Riyadh Street Circuit and was on pole position for the second ePrix a day later. In the third ePrix of the season, the reigning world champion will be looking to capture the lead in the championship.

De Vries second in championship

In the second ePrix in Saudi Arabia, De Vries finished tenth, forcing him to leave the lead in the championship to Swiss driver Edoardo Mortara. The Dutchman is now four points behind the leader. Stoffel Vandoorne, De Vries' teammate with Mercedes, is third, one point behind the Dutchman.

De Vries himself looks back on an encouraging start to the season with satisfaction but remains realistic. "We are very aware of the challenges ahead of us. We know how competitive our rivals are, so we have to do our best to remain great contenders," the Dutchman said in a press release.

Second race weekend in Mexico

Mexico will host the third ePrix this weekend. Unlike in Saudi Arabia, no double header. De Vries is looking forward to it. "Mexico City is a great place. The fans are super enthusiastic and the stadium section on the last sector is great. It's just a great venue for an ePrix. Hopefully we can have another great weekend there."

De Vries will try to take the lead back from Mortara, but he acknowledges that it's not going to be easy. "Everyone is close, but we have confidence in the event in Mexico and, as usual, we are fully concentrating on the preparations at the moment."
