Pierre Gasly has driven for a couple of different teams in recent years, but seems to have found his place at Alpha Tauri. He was finally able to spend two seasons with the same team and he feels he has taken a step in the right direction.

The Frenchman went to Red Bull Racing for the first half of the 2019 season, but returned to Alpha Tauri during the summer break of that year. Since his return, he has won a race and been on the podium a couple of timems and his results have been and remain fairly consistent. According to him, this is mainly due to the fact that he has finally spent several years with a team.

"For me the key point this year was really carrying for another [full] year with a team, which was the first time it happened for me in Formula 1," Gasly told Motorsportweek. The 25-year-old driver noticed that there is a lot more understanding between them and that, as a result, he was also better at indicating how he wanted his car to perform.

Matching the best result

Alpha Tauri ended the Formula 1 season with 142 points in the Constructors' Championship. This equaled their best result, which was sixth place. The former Red Bull driver feels more points were definitely possible, but the car was mainly fast over one lap and not in the race.

Still, he has learned a lot from that too, as he is now better at finding the right set-up to get the most out of his car. "You always make mistakes but you try and reduce them and maximize the opportunities you have, so I feel this year I made a step."
