Alonso wants to make it difficult for Verstappen: 'We are working hard'

Fernando Alonso is hoping to be a lot more competitive next season compared to 2021. Although the Spaniard made an excellent impression at Alpine, he finished tenth in the world championship last season.
The Spanish driver has become accustomed to winning prizes in his career. The 40-year-old driver did extremely well throughout his career, even winning the world title twice with Renault in 2005 and 2006. With McLaren and Ferrari he hoped to repeat this trick, but it turned out to be more difficult than expected.
Alonso hopes for surprises with Alpine
Alonso faced stiff competition and failed to win the world championship in the last fifteen seasons. While the experienced driver realises it will be difficult to win the world title with Alpine, he believes his team can surprise with the changes to the regulations next season.
"We are working hard on the design of the car for next year, so let's see where we are during the first tests," Alonso revealed in conversation with the Spanish Mundo Deportivo. "We hope to be one of the teams to benefit from the rule change and be more competitive next year."
