Max Verstappen will start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year old Dutchman was three tenths faster than his rival Lewis Hamilton, and the world championship leader is unsurprisingly pleased with the result.

"It's of course an amzing feeling. I think we definitely improved the car again in qualifying because so far this weekend it's been on and off, but incredible happy with this. This is what we wanted. But it's never easy. I am just looking forward to tomorrow" Verstappen said in conversation with David Coulthard immediately after qualifying.

The Red Bull driver will start on softs, while Hamilton will start on mediums. So, there will be different strategies at the head of the field. "I felt good on both tyres. So, of course naturally now in the evening it's a bit cooler so it should be okay on the soft tyres, but we will see tomorrow. It's very important to have a good start and from there we will try to do our race."

Verstappen relaxed

Verstappen revealed he was very relaxed going into qualifying."We'll try our very best and see where we end up. I was very relaxed going into qualifying because I always do my best I can. I know my team will give me the best possible car and we have been doing that whole year."
