Gasly: "He's clearly in a better position"

Max Verstappen is still the biggest contender to secure the world title in 2021. Pierre Gasly announced this in the press conference prior to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Despite the fact that the momentum seems to be with Mercedes, Verstappen would have a better chance of winning the championship. Charles Leclerc doesn't entirely agree.

"Max has the points advantage. He's clearly in a better position," Gasly commented to the likes of Motorsport-Total.com. The AlphaTauri driver suspects Mercedes will come out very strong at the Jeddah circuit. "But I think if Max comes to Abu Dhabi with a points advantage, he will win the title".

Leclerc is not as convinced as Gasly, as the Monegasque considers Hamilton more likely. The Ferrari driver reckons the seven-time world champion did the world of business in Brazil by finishing first, despite being disqualified on Friday and Interlagos being/being a 'Red Bull track' anyway.

Minimal difference between them

The difference between Hamilton and Verstappen is currently eight points. If the Dutchman finishes second and Hamilton crosses the line first (including fastest race lap) in Saudi Arabia the two men will travel to Abu Dhabi next week with exactly equal points.
