Lando Norris will be returning to Suzuka having taken part in FP1 for McLaren last year hoping for “some good overtaking” as the team looks to build on their position at the top of the midfield.

Norris will make his first race appearance at Suzuka this weekend for McLaren after his only previous experience on the track was a drive in FP1 in 2018.

Optimistic that there will be chance for overtaking in Japan the Brit also admits it is one of the “fun” tracks in Formula 1.

“I’m looking forward to heading back to Suzuka, having taken part in FP1 there last year,” he said.

“It’s a fun track in an F1 car and one that hopefully allows for some good overtaking.

“Japan is also a very cool place to visit, although I’ll probably steer clear of the sushi!"

Since his retirement from P5 on the penultimate lap of the Belgian Grand Prix Norris has finished in the points the past three races to help McLaren bolster their lead at the top of the midfield ahead of Renault.

The Briton has been putting in the work back home to prepare for Suzuka to continue that form for the last few races.

“I’ve been doing a lot of prep for this race back at the factory, and I’m pushing hard to make the most of these last few races and build on our position in the midfield standings for the team,” he added.

“We’ll be pushing hard again to score more points and I can't wait to race there.”
