A huge rule change for the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo has finally come through, as it has now been revealed on the first test day of winter testing for the new Formula 1 season. There will be more mandatory pit stops for drivers during the race on the Mediterranean coast, with these rules now having been introduced by the FIA to create more excitement during the race.
The rule change had been in the air for a while, with the FIA implementing a change regarding this Grand Prix that will occur in 2025. A week ago, it was announced that a possible mandatory two-stopper during this iconic Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar was being considered.
This is the FIA's statement on the Monaco Grand Prix
"The FIA World Motor Sport Council reviewed a proposal regarding the implementation of a mandatory 2-stop strategy (in both wet and dry conditions) for the Monaco GP, with the primary intent of improving the sporting spectacle of this Race given the notable difficulty in overtaking at this circuit," began the FIA's statement on the Monaco Grand Prix.
"Following recent discussions in the F1 Commission, a specific requirement for the Monaco GP has been approved mandating the use of at least three sets of tyres in the Race, with a minimum of two different tyre compounds to be used if it’s a dry race," the governing body confirmed.
