Johnny Herbert will no longer act as FIA steward from the 2025 Formula One season. The decision is said to be ‘mutually agreed’ by both Herbert and the FIA.

The FIA shared the following statement on Hebert's departure, “It is with regret that we announce today that Johnny Herbert will no longer fulfil the position of F1 driver steward for the FIA. Johnny is widely respected and brought invaluable experience and expertise to his role. However, after discussion, it was mutually agreed that his duties as an FIA steward and that of a media pundit were incompatible. We thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Herbert would continue to be active as an FIA steward in 2025 and that he would filfill his duties at the Australian Grand Prix in March. The governing body has since reversed their decisison.

In 2024, Herbert became a contentious figure as he was regarded as a key figure in the so-called British bias of the media and stewards towards drivers from their country. In particular, Herbert was known to make harsh comments regarding Verstappen's driving style.
