Hamilton's first test is over: This is how the session went for the Ferrari driver!
Lewis Hamilton has completed his first test for his new employer Ferrari in Formula 1. In front of thousands of delirious fans on Wednesday morning, the seven-time world champion jumped into the Scuderia car for the first time and drove test laps on the Fiorano circuit, with the 40-year-old completing 30 laps.
Charles Leclerc, Hamilton's teammate for the 2025 season, will get behind the wheel for the afternoon test after Hamilton took charge of the morning session. This was a so-called TPC test, meaning a car that has been in use before was driven. Racing Bulls, for example, will be using their 2023 car these days, while Ferrari has opted for the SF-23.
Hamilton tests the SF-23 at Fiorano
Hamilton's debut in Ferrari's iconic red car went well. In total, the Englishman managed to complete 30 laps around the Fiorano circuit. During the session, Hamilton had to deal with difficult conditions, such as low temperatures, fog, and lots of moisture hitting the track. He started the session on the wet tyres due to the rain, but he then changed to slicks when the track dried up as the morning went on.
At the end of the session, Hamilton kindly thanked the crowd, which had flocked to the track to catch a glimpse of the driver before the session came to an end. As mentioned, it will be the Monegasque's turn in the afternoon. At the end of January, Hamilton will get behind the wheel of a Ferrari again, this time in Barcelona, where the team will carry out further tests.
