At the start of the season in Shanghai, there was a four-way battle during the sprint race. Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Perez. The battle was being closely fought especially between Alonso and Sainz. Sainz overtook Alonso, but the former two-time world champion would not accept defeat. Alonso attempted to overtake Sainz but as they were battling it out, Perez seized his opportunity. Both Alonso and Sainz went wide, which gave Perez the space to claim a higher position. Perez ended up taking P3 on the podium in that same place.

Because of this manoeuvre, Perez won 'Action of the Year'. On the social media platform, X, Perez thanked those who voted. He wrote  "That was an exciting race! Thanks to everyone for voting!"

Perez's future with Red Bull Racing is still unknown as he is still in talks with his team about their future together.
