Verstappen not the best driver in 2024 according to Power Rankings
Max Verstappen has been overtaken on the list of the Power Rankings after the last Grand Prix, with the Dutchman not finishing in the top ten highest ratings after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Lando Norris received a score of ten after bringing the constructors' championship home for McLaren, meaning his overall ranking from the 2024 season just pipped Verstappen's.
Formula1.com's Power Rankings judges have handed out a ten to Norris. The McLaren driver started on pole position at the Yas Marina Circuit, and he managed to cash that in on the weekend when McLaren looked to seal the constructors' title. He led from start to finish with a calm and calculated drive.
Verstappen was not among the top ten ratings after the race after his lap 1 collision with Oscar Piastri at the first corner. The Red Bull driver dived down the inside of the Australian, but Verstappen understeered out of the corner, and as the small gap closed, the reigning world champion hit Piastri and spun him around. That resulted in a ten-second time penalty for the Dutchman.
The judges explained Norris' maximum rating: "Lando Norris delivered perfection on the final race weekend of the 2024 season – making a statement with pole position and victory to enter the winter break in style. His triumph was also crucial in terms of McLaren securing the constructors’ championship, given that the Ferraris were waiting to pounce on any issues in second and third."
