Bortoleto crowned F2 champion after horror start for Hadjar
Gabriel Bortoleto was crowned champion in Abu Dhabi, after Isack Hadjar was already in a complicated situation thanks to stalling at the start. The final race of the season was won by Joshua Durksen, while the future Sauber driver crossed the finish line in P2.
Entering the final feature race in Abu Dhabi, only 4.5 points separated Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar. Off the line, disaster immediately struck for Hadjar, who stalled off the line. The driver was pulled back to the pit lane, while Gabriel Bortoleto could take the lead immediately starting from P2.
Hadjar continued his race from the pit lane, and was briefly even two laps down, but he could de-lap himself running his own race. After making his pit stop, Bortoleto made a mistake into Turn 9, losing positions to Joshua Durksen and Victor Martins. The Brazilian was not satisfied with his car's brakes. He certainly did not settle for just carrying home his car, and on Lap 29, he overtook Martins for second place.
On an alternative strategy, Richard Verschoor could keep on improving on the mediums into the latter stages, leading that pack. He entered the pit lane on Lap 27, and returned on track in P6. The Dutchman finished on the podium, as Martins made on the penultimate lap in the final corner. The best driver who joined the competition after completing the F3 season today was Dino Beganovic, who crossed the finish line in P6.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli still felt sick on Sunday, therefore, the Italian youngster skipped his final F2 race before his Formula 1 adventure will begin in 2025 at Mercedes. Oliver Bearman finished in P5.
