Max Verstappen told news agency PA that he believes Lewis Hamilton will be more motivated again in a more competitive car. Hamilton has won two Grands Prix in 2024 at Silverstone and then at Spa-Francorchamps (after George Russell was disqualified), and will join Ferrari next season.

Verstappen on Hamilton

After spending more than a decade at Mercedes, Hamilton will join Ferrari next season, teaming up with Charles Leclerc. According to Verstappen, Hamilton has not lost any of his qualities that made him a seven-time champion in the competition. Last weekend, the Briton finished in P2 starting from tenth on the grid.

"It has been tough for him (Hamilton) to get motivated fully this year because he knows he is leaving the team. I felt like as soon as he had that competitive car, and there was a chance of winning, you could see that he really stepped up. Then there were some races where the car was difficult and he was like ‘whatever’." Verstappen explained his thoughts.

The Dutchman also does not rule out fighting against Hamilton next season. "I don’t think he will ever lose it. He has achieved so much. It is a new challenge for him next year. He will be very, very motivated to show he is a seven-time world champion. But it will depend on the material he has got," he concluded.
