In Sakhir, George Russell had the chance of a lifetime to win his first race on his debut for Mercedes. A day later, the disappointment can still be seen from the young Briton's face.

Russell had a good qualification in Bahrain and earned a place next to Valtteri Bottas on the front row. At the start Russell immediately caught his temporary teammate and seemed on his way to victory. A chaotic pitstop blunder from Mercedes made it difficult, but a flat tyre completely put an end to Russell's dream.

Russell still gutted

''Hey, guys. Where should I start? First of all, I would like to thank you all for the support I received after yesterday's race. Of course, I'm still very disappointed that I missed that victory, but it was a great feeling to really participate in that fight," said Russell on his Twitter account.

''I was in the lead for so long and then I got a second chance to win the race. But it wasn't to be yesterday. I just don't know. There is a lot to be proud of and I am very happy with how the weekend went. Hopefully I'll get another chance soon," concluded the Brit who is still under contract with Williams for 2021.
