PODCAST: GPblog Decade Review #1: 2010-2011 - The Rise of Sebastian Vettel
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
It's the end of 2019 and therefore it's end of the decade! To commemorate what has been another fantastic 10 years, we have a special four-part podcast series in which we break down the decade year by year! First off, it's 2010 and 2011, the years where Sebastian Vettel went from talent to the youngest world champion in F1 history as Fernando Alonso tried to hunt him down at Ferrari.
2010 was a season of change. It was the first season where there was no more refueling during races, there were four new constructors and many more driver changes. Most notably, Michael Schumacher came out of retirement to join Mercedes and Fernando Alonso went from Renault to Ferrari.
We discuss why 2010 arguably was the best year of F1 of the decade, how Vettel was seen at the time, and how much closer the 2010 title race was than people think!
Stay tuned for our next episode, where we look at 2012 and 2013!
