Jos Verstappen is convinced that Mercedes are not following the rules with their flexible rear wing. The former Formula 1 driver therefore demands clarification, before his son misses out on a world title because of this.

Mercedes have been working behind the scenes to improve Hamilton's rear wing. According to the Austrian team, the difference in speed between Hamilton and Verstappen is not only due to the Mercedes engine in the British driver's car. Verstappen agrees.

"I don't believe that the difference in speed is only because of the engine," he explained in an interview with De Telegraaf.

"Of course they can tune such a new power source a bit sharper. I would give all engines the same software in the race anyway, then you don't have this problem. But will a new Mercedes engine really be so much worse after two or three races? I can't imagine that." He therefore believes that there is more to it. "That's just not right."

Verstappen staying calm

Verstappen sees that his son remains calm, however. "Of course I am afraid of Mercedes at the moment. Max sees that too, of course. He's easy on the eyes and says: 'The only thing I can do is drive as hard as possible.' Max gets the maximum out of every weekend and is going to do the same for the last three races. ahead for a reason."
