Helmut Marko gave his trust to a young Max Verstappen in 2015 and that trust has not damaged Verstappen. The Red Bull Racing advisor discusses at oe24.at What makes Verstappen so unique.

In 2015, Verstappen debuted for his first season in Formula 1 at Toro Rosso. After just one season of F1 and a few races in 2016, he was given the chance at Red Bull Racing. Marko and Red Bull faced a lot of criticism due to this choice, but in hindsight, Verstappen never violated the trust of the management.

Confidence in Verstappen

''We gave our trust to Max when we gave him the chance in F1 at the age of sixteen. That trust has grown over the years. There is a great atmosphere in our team, this year we finally gave Max a car with which he can compete for the title'', says the Austrian.

However, the question is what makes Verstappen so unique? ''Max has been well received because he is completely himself. For example, he says openly that Netflix (referring to the Netflix series Drive to Survive) is not his thing, although I have to agree with him there too: a typical exaggerated American story'', Marko concludes.
