With five races to go in the next six weeks Timo Glock thinks Red Bull Racing are in a better position than Mercedes. According to the former F1 driver, Mercedes might regret their early announcement that Valtteri Bottas will leave the team.

The 2022 Formula One championship will be decided on the details in the final races. The difference between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is only 12 points and in the constructors' championship Mercedes has a lead of 23 points. So the differences are minimal.

Mistake by Mercedes?

''I think Red Bull is in a better position than Red Bull. Mercedes decided early on to replace Valtteri Bottas for George Russell next season. That was clear, but now Mercedes can no longer completely rely on Bottas. You can see it in the way the Finn reacts in different situations like in Russia. There, the fastest lap was at stake,'' Glock said according to Speedweek.com.

According to the German, Red Bull has done better in that respect with the contract extension for Sergio Perez. Red Bull can rely on Perez. ''The Mexican will offer support to Max. Sergio's future is at stake and he will do everything to win the support of his team, by supporting Verstappen as best as possible'', concludes Glock.
