Ferrari is already at an advanced stage in the development of their 2022 car. The Italian team could well shift their focus to next year ahead of Red Bull Racing and Mercedes, who are engaged in an intense title fight. Ferrari, on the other hand, is battling it out with McLaren for third place in the championship, so it can't rest on its laurels.

McLaren is currently ahead, but the Woking-based team has a margin of just 3.5 points. The Constructors' Championship is of great importance to the competitors, especially because of the financial rewards attached to it. These vary considerably depending on the final ranking in the championship.

Ferrari thinks it can close the gap to Mercedes and Honda

Due to Ferrari's backlog over the last two seasons, the focus in Maranello will likely have shifted early on to 2022. The most important decisions about this have already been made, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport. The team expects to close the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull Honda by working on the internal combustion engine (the ICE).

In addition, the nose, side pods and floor are expected to look very different to the 2022 car that Formula 1 unveiled at Silverstone. The team also confirmed that the car will be difficult to drive compared to current Formula 1 cars, something that several drivers have previously commented on.
