Max Verstappen drove a 1:32.910 in the United States and everyone thought that was not possible after the lousy Friday. The Dutchman was a good two tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton and so the leader in the world championship started from pole position at COTA. Verstappen is logically very content.

"Yeah! It was quite exciting out there also in Q2 to make the lap time on the harder compound," Verstappen said in an initial reaction afterwards. "Then in Q3 my first lap wasn't amazing but in the final lap it started spitting in the last sector especially. I was not sure that I was going to hang onto my lap time, but it's great to get pole."

Red Bull strikes back

The 24-year-old Limburger is also happy to see Sergio Perez right behind him. "To be P1 and P3 is a strong team performance." Verstappen will be joined on the front row of the grid by title rival Hamilton. "I think that's what people love. I'm hoping for a good start. We will have to work well together with the team to get the best possible result."

The Grand Prix in America will get underway at 21:00 on Sunday. Verstappen will be hoping to extend his lead of six points in the World Championship, whilst Hamilton will try to regain the lead.
