Lewis Hamilton last managed to win the United States Grand Prix in 2017. If the Mercedes driver runs away with the victory at the Circuit of the Americas he will take over the lead in the world championship from Max Verstappen again. The British driver is looking forward to the race in Texas.

Hamilton arrived a few minutes late to the press conference. He had a particular reason for this. "I locked myself in my room and couldn't get out. But it feels good to be back here. We've had a very warm welcome. We always have a great crowd here and great races."

Battle with Verstappen

Speaking to Formula1.nl and others, Hamilton revealed that the relationship with Verstappen 'hasn't really' changed from last season. "Some drivers interact more than others. We just said 'hi' last year, we still do that now so that hasn't changed," explained the 36-year-old driver.

The current number two in the World Championship hopes to score maximum points this weekend. "It's important to win all the races. We need to maximise our points over the next six races. There will be times when we can beat them, but in Mexico they can be strong again. A lot can happen in six races, we will take it race by race."
