Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have won world championships in the past, but the trio are now in their final years in Formula 1. Stefano Domenicali does not fear for the future, however, he tells The Guardian.

The Formula 1 boss has enjoyed the way Hamilton has dominated the sport in recent years, stringing together world titles with Mercedes. Only Nico Rosberg managed to thwart the British driver in 2016, but otherwise Hamilton was untouchable. This year is already different, as Max Verstappen is entering the title fight.

Therefore, when the three drivers quit, Domenicali expects other drivers to take their places. "The good news is that we have an incredible number of top drivers. I see Verstappen, George Russell, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and all the others. Almost all of them are really top drivers. The next five years the drivers will not be an issue at all for F1," Domenicali said.

Russell faces extra pressure at Mercedes

The expectations around Russell's performance are high. The driver did a great job with Williams this year but will face more pressure with Mercedes. It is therefore questionable whether he can handle it.
