For weeks now, rumours have been circulating that Andretti Autosport is exploring the possibility of linking their name to Formula 1. The season is now slowly moving towards its conclusion and it seems that the American team is close to an entry into the sport, reports Motorsport.com.

According to the news site the talks are at a very advanced stage. Former F1 driver Michael Andretti has already indicated that he would like to have an F1 team in his name and the rumours are that the news could be announced within a couple of weeks. An important point is the decision of Islero Investments. The company that is the current owner of the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team.

2022 regulations play a role

Fred Vasseur, current team boss at the Swiss team, has already indicated that he cannot comment on the news."I am the CEO and team boss and these discussions are not within my duties. That is for the shareholders to decide. There are many rumours and if you want them answered, you have to ask the shareholders of the company."

The new regulations in 2022, which among other things should reduce costs, have caused Andretti to take an interest in the sport. The unknown second seat at Alfa Romeo could be related to the possible takeover, as IndyCar driver Colton Herta could be a future F1 driver and is currently linked to Andretti Autosport in the American racing class.
