Qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix didn't go quite as Red Bull Racing had probably hoped. With Max Verstappen on P3 and Sergio Perez on P7, there is little to celebrate, although both move up a place due to Lewis Hamilton's grid penalty. Adviser Helmut Marko therefore still has high hopes for the race.

"Obviously it would have been really nice to drive away up front. If we can't get past them, then we will go for the longer distance and safety to make sure we can defend against Hamilton. We expect him to find his way back to the front," Marko explained in a conversation with RTL.

Mercedes impresses

He is worried about Mercedes' speed though, as all weekend long the German team has been in a very good position and in qualifying the difference between the Mercedes duo and Verstappen could have been much bigger.

"Mercedes' speed was already very good. We will also have to see what the weather is going to do, because the forecasts have not always been right so far". Marko has previously revealed that he expected Verstappen to beat Valtteri Bottas in the battle for pole position. The Dutchman didn't manage that though and so he will start from P2 on Sunday.
