Final starting grid GP Russia: Top teams in pursuit in Sochi
- GPblog.com
With a handful of grid penalties and many shifts on the starting grid the FIA has announced the final starting grid for the Russian Grand Prix. Lando Norris will start from pole position after his great qualifying on Saturday. Former teammate Carlos Sainz achieved his best starting position, namely second place.
On the second row of the grid is the future Mercedes duo. George Russell is in third place with Lewis Hamilton alongside him in fourth. Daniel Ricciardo, race winner at Monza, will start on P5 with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso allowed to start from P6.
Top teams are at the back
At the back it's Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc on the last row of the grid, who along with Nicholas Latifi have so many grid penalties that they have to start at the back. Antonio Giovinazzi will start from 17th place, with Valtteri Bottas in 16th. The start will be very important for those drivers at the back to make up places quickly.
