Full results qualifying: Costly mistake by Hamilton, Norris with first pole
- GPblog.com
It's Lando Norris grabbing his first pole position of his career in Russia. He trumps Carlos Sainz in the battle for the fastest lap at the Sochi Autodrom. Max Verstappen didn't come into action, because he was going to start last anyway.
Surprising results in Russia
The entire top three was surprising. Behind Norris and Sainz, George Russell will start from P3. Only on the fourth spot do we see Lewis Hamilton again, who made a mistake in qualifying which may have cost him the pole position. Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso ensure that we find Valtteri Bottas only on P7.
It was a disappointing qualifying session for Red Bull Racing. Max Verstappen already knew he would start from the back of the grid and was out of action at the Sochi Autodrom, so hopes were pinned on Sergio Perez. He was unable to make a move on Saturday and will start from ninth position.
