Reversed grid idea meets with fierce resistance: 'It changes F1 DNA'
- GPblog.com
After two weekends in 2021 where the sprint race was tried, the fans are not really convinced yet. Also the teams don't really know what they want yet. The sprint race needs to be more exciting, but according to Toto Wollf, Otmar Szafnauer and Lando Norris the reversed grid will not help.
How should the sprint races continue?
There is doubt surrounding the sprint races. Is it worth continuing with it in 2022 or is it a failed experiment? Different ways are suggested to make the format more attractive; handing out more point or a reversed grid.
Formel1.de reports that Aston Martin team principal Szafnauer is against the latter idea: "I support what the fans want, but the idea of a reverse start grid in F1 is very far from what the sport is about. Personally, I don't want this sprint race to be the same as in F2."
Support from Wolff
Wolff agrees with his colleague from the other team and also doesn't see how F1 can be compatible with a reversed grid: "I stick to my point that this changes the DNA of the sport as a competitive community."
