LIVE: Race for the Italian Grand Prix

The Mercedes car was a lot better than Red Bull Racing in free practice and qualifying, but Saturday afternoon's sprint race changed all that. Hamilton's poor start saw him finish no further than fifth, while Verstappen finished second behind Valtteri Bottas (who will start from the back of the grid on Sunday afternoon due to a penalty) and picked up some points for the world championship.

McLaren versus Mercedes

Mercedes have more speed than Red Bull Racing this weekend, but it doesn't look easy for Hamilton to get close to Verstappen. Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris took second and third place on the grid and Hamilton will not want to let them get away with it.

For Hamilton the races in Italy and Russia, are the ideal opportunity to regain the lead over Verstappen in the world championship. He and his team will therefore do everything in their power to get closer to his rival on the Monza circuit and overtake him, although it remains to be seen whether he can do so.
