Alexander Albon has made the switch to Williams and so now there is actually a Red Bull Racing driver driving a car powered by Mercedes engines. Is it not a possibility that Williams will see its power units supplied by Red Bull itself in the future?

Christian Horner gives the answer at Monza. From next year, the Austrian team will start its own engine project, Red Bull Powertrains. In 2026, the new engine regulations will reportedly be introduced and so Red Bull will be able to supply other teams with power sources at that time.

"Obviously, we don't have an engine facility yet. We're busy building that and we've got enough on our plate supplying two teams at this point in time," said Horner, who is therefore not ruling anything out for the future. "But, of course, when new regulations are on the horizon, you can never say never in the future."

Who will replace Albon?

At Motorsport.com the British team principal goes on to say that Albon's knowledge and skills will be sorely missed in 2022. Fortunately, there are still plenty of good talents in the junior programme and some routines can be used as well. "We will miss him because of his experience and his work ethic. He's just a very strong team player. But we have some great young talent as well coming through and developing. We've Liam Lawson, Dennis Hauger in F3, so we're not short of talent. Then we have more experienced guys as well like Sebastian Buemi and Jake Dennis."
