Max Verstappen is happy for Alexander Albon that he will return to Formula 1 next year.
"Absolutely, of course I knew it a bit earlier," Verstappen said when asked at Ziggo Sport if he was happy for Albon. The current leader in the world championship contacted his former teammate to congratulate him. "I sent him a message."
Albon at Red Bull
According to Verstappen, Albon is talented and deserves another chance in Formula 1. "If you look at what he did at Toro Rosso, that was bit like Pierre, that looked very good. Then he came to Red Bull and it just became more difficult, the car I think just didn't suit him. I think at Williams he can show himself again with less pressure. Due to certain circumstances he just couldn't show it and hopefully he can now", he says.
The 23-year-old Dutchman continues his story with pit reporter Jack Plooij. "I can hardly drive slower. But he has talent and hopefully that will just come out at Williams." Albon is the replacement at Williams for George Russell, who left for Mercedes. Albon will be driving alongside Nicholas Latifi in 2022.
