Condition of Verstappen impressive: 'his condition is phenomenally good '
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen has a real chance to fight for the world championship for the first time this season. The Dutchman is having a legendary season together with Lewis Hamilton and former F1-driver Gijs van Lennep has noticed this.
Speaking to NRC Dutchman says he is impressed by Verstappen's stamina and how seemingly fit he gets out of the car after a race.
"It strikes me that Max gets out of his car after the race still fit, like, pf, nothing wrong - his condition is phenomenally good. As crazy as that sounds to some people: as a Formula One driver you have to have the condition of a marathon runner, while you're in that car."
Verstappen is the best driver
But is he also in the best car? In any case, Van Lennep does think that the best driver in the field always knows how to find a way to the best car.
"The best driver is almost always in the best car. Hamilton was seven years in a Mercedes, the best car, the best driver. Max is just as good, but he wasn't in the best car yet. Now Max can keep up easily, he is also the best driver and he is in the best car. That's why he is going to be world champion. And not for the last time.
Everyone, including van Lennep, will hope that the battle between Hamilton and Verstappen will continue until the last race of the season.
