Toto Wolff is happy with Alexander Albon's move to Williams, but there is one small note to add. The Austrian team boss is not keen on Albon remaining 100 per cent linked to Red Bull Racing as Williams will be using Mercedes engines.

All tips and tricks would then be in the hands of the biggest competitor and Wolff wants to make sure of that. "It’s one thing about the power unit and I think Albon, as I said, is a driver that deserves a seat in Formula 1", said Wolff on Saturday at Zandvoort. “But it’s tricky to have a 100% Red Bull driver with a Mercedes power unit," the Mercedes top executive stated at The Race.

De Vries also an option

“So, happy to work with him, as long as they let him free from his Red Bull contract", Wolff says. Albon's move to Jost Capito is not yet a certainty as Nyck de Vries is also a possibility. Wolff might even prefer the Dutchman at customer team Mercedes because De Vries already has ties with Mercedes.

Red Bull hopes to keep Albon for its own programme, but Christian Horner has already hinted that Albon will not be deprived of a place in the premier class of motor sport. The Austrian team is prepared to end its formal links with Albon if it means that the British Thai can find work elsewhere.
