Horner sees room for improvement with Perez 'Is a key element'
- GPblog.com
This weekend the word got out, Sergio Perez will stay at Red Bull Racing in 2022. The team is happy with the Mexican and also Max Verstappen said he is very happy with his teammate. Yet there is also room for improvement for Perez.
Active role for Perez
For Perez, the extension of his contract probably won't have come as much of a surprise. At Motorsport.com Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner explains that the Mexican was already involved in the development of the new car for 2022. "He has obviously already done some preparatory work for next year, but that will only become more so during the second part of the season. He will play a very active role in this."
Horner, therefore, thinks it is good that Perez has already been confirmed for next year in this part of the season. "Now everyone can start the second half of the season with peace of mind. In addition, it is also good with a view to the new regulations for 2022."
Improvement for Perez
The fact that Perez is allowed to stay at Red Bull for another year does not mean that there is no room for improvement. Above all, Horner hopes that Checo can come out stronger during qualifying. "That's an important element, of course. Especially when we look at the tracks ahead. But as he becomes more and more familiar with the car, things will improve. And of course, he's had some bad luck in the races, so we just need trouble-free Sundays with him as well."
