Mercedes are planning to soon tell George Russell and Valtteri Bottas who may sit next to Lewis Hamilton next year. The announcement will probably come later on. Both men will keep their lips sealed in the press conference prior to the Belgian Grand Prix.

"There is nothing to announce this weekend and probably not next weekend either. But that's not a problem. Let's do things right rather than rushing," George Russell said Thursday afternoon to the likes of Motorsport-Magazin.com. The young Briton himself considers himself ready for the big time after three seasons at Williams to compete for the world title from 2022.

Bottas can't report anything

His rival Bottas has proven to be a perfect 'wingman' for Hamilton in recent years. From the Finnish corner, too, things remain quiet. "Maybe I know more, maybe not. In any case I can't share any news", he says somewhat cryptically. It could be that Toto Wolff and company have already made up their minds, but that Russell and Bottas are not allowed to say anything yet.

Probably somewhere in September, we will hear what the plans of Mercedes are for next season. Alfa Romeo, Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri have also already announced that they will reveal their line-up in the next month.
