Newey on Red Bull preparations: 'We're bringing in a lot of young talent'

Looking back at the first half of the 2021 season, which saw Red Bull Racing return to be serious championship contenders, Technical Director and designer of the lightning-fast RB16B Adrien Newey gives a behind-the-scenes insight into the team's engineering department. He explained that this year, both the atmosphere and the structure of the department are conducive to an optimal result in the title race.
"The atmosphere we have in the engineering team is great," Newey said on Red Bull's Talking Bull podcast. "We’re bringing in graduates and young talent and seeing how they grow and mature, and how everybody kind of coaches them to help them get up to speed."
Two sides of the coin
The top technical executive sees both a curse and a blessing in the enormity of the Red Bull racing project. He continued: "You could argue that because of the size we have we’re a bit more restricted in how many areas you can become involved in."
"The flip side of that is that you can go into much more detail, with all the simulators and tools we have. If you go back into the past you just didn’t have those things," Newey added.
