Fernando Alonso is back in Formula 1 this season. It was hard to know in advance how the Spaniard would perform at the highest level of motorsport, but so far the experienced driver is making a good impression. It is a great relief for Alain Prost.
The qualities of the double world champion are not up for discussion. Alonso has done well with almost all teams and therefore deserves a place in Formula 1. At the same time, the driver is known as a person who is individualistic. That is why Alpine had doubts beforehand to keep him in the team.

Prost can well remember the moments when he had doubts. "When we signed with Alonso, I had my reservations," the Alpine advisor stated in conversation with Canal +. In the meantime, however, Alonso impressed him. "Everyone is talking about Esteban Ocon's sensational win, but what was very important before that was that Fernando sacrificed himself in Hungary to let Ocon win."
"Fernando drove very well," Prost continued. "My worries are long gone. Alonso takes the whole team with his mentality and proves to be an exemplary team player. He knew exactly what to do with Hamilton to protect Ocon."
