Alpine is currently involved in a fierce battle for fifth place in the Constructors' Championship with AlphaTauri and Aston Martin. The French formation is in seventh place, but if they can score nine points more they would suddenly be in fifth place. Nevertheless, Alpine has decided to stop the further development of the 2021-powered car.

Marcin Budkowski confirmed this to Marca. "We have done a lot of work with Enstone and Viry since the start of the season to develop the car. The focus has now shifted completely to 2022 at both plants, which means fewer new parts coming to the track," the CEO said.

Alonso wants to win

Fernando Alonso has finished the last five Grands Prix in the points, and with no further development, this could soon come to an end. However, the Spaniard also knew there would come a point in the season when updates would no longer be introduced. The two-time world champion won't be too sad about it though, as he has often said that 2022 is more important to him than the current season.

The Spanish medium also suspects that Ferrari will focus on 2022 after Monza. Mercedes have said they will add little more this year, while Red Bull Racing are continuing to develop in a bid to regain their first world title since 2013.
