Mercedes is back in the world championship after the race weekend at Silverstone. Where Lewis Hamilton was miles behind Max Verstappen, the gap has been reduced to eight points.

The German stable has been working hard on the car in recent weeks to reduce the gap to Red Bull Racing. "We came home from the weekend pretty chipper about the upgrade," judges James Allison in conversation with the Official website of Formula 1. "Is there any more to come? There may be here and there, but in the vast sort of main industrial effort of our development programme – that was the last big package that we will bring this year."

Mercedes' Chief Technical Officer states that Mercedes can certainly still make improvements. "There will be a few tweaks here and there where we can see efficiently that we can bring some performance without distracting us from the big effort that is now going into next year's car," Allison is referring to the major changes for next season.

Hamilton versus Verstappen

Hamilton won the home race in Britain after crashing into Verstappen. The Englishman tried to overtake his rival on the opening lap, but the two touched. Verstappen hit the wall hard.
