Seidl: 'Ricciardo has a lot of improving to do to catch up with Norris'

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl is pleased to see Daniel Ricciardo making progress as the season progresses. The Australian was visibly struggling to adapt to the MCL35M from the start of 2021.
Ricciardo shows improvement at Silverstone
At Silverstone, Ricciardo managed to finish in the top five for the first time since his switch from Renault to McLaren. He did have to let teammate Lando Norris pass him. The Briton is having an excellent season.
Seidl also sees Ricciardo making strides: "Very strong drive all weekend from Lando and I’m very happy with the progress Daniel made, a really good step forward in qualifying on Friday and then managed to pull off some good races which is great to see. Looking forward now to Hungary," the German revealed at F1.com.
Norris still a step too big
Ricciardo and Seidl are aware that they are still far from reaching their top form. "As Daniel said also after the race, there’s still things obviously to improve to match Lando, but the important thing is he’s making steps." Ricciardo is already feeling a lot more comfortable with the car compared to previous races.
McLaren is in a fierce battle for third place among the constructors with Ferrari in 2021. In Hungary, the team will come up with new updates for the MCL35M.
