Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton set Formula 1 on fire this Sunday by colliding on the first lap. It cost Verstappen his race and a visit to hospital, while Hamilton was able to continue and would eventually win the race at Silverstone despite his ten-second penalty.

Helmut Marko has kept a low profile until now, but opposite Sky Sports Germany he gave a short reaction. He mainly reacted to the claims of Mercedes that it was a racing incident. The Austrian didn't exactly agree with that.

"If a driver hits our rear wheel so hard with his front, then it is no longer a racing incident in the fastest corner on the circuit. This is negligence in the face of such dangerous behaviour."

Marko doesn't see what Mercedes sees

Where almost everyone on the Mercedes side claims it was a racing incident and some even go so far as to say Verstappen was guilty, Marko doesn't go along with that at all. It resulted in some fierce statements towards the competitor.

"Then they are all blind. The replays showed everything clearly. Lewis hit the right rear wheel with his left front wheel and sent Verstappen into the crash barriers." Hamilton's action, therefore, earned him a ten-second penalty, something that would not ultimately stop the Brit from winning the Grand Prix at home.
