Not enough time for upgrades Mercedes? "You only have an hour"
- GPblog.com
For Mercedes, the weekend at Silverstone will be one of make or break. The team is currently behind Red Bull and was clearly the inferior to Max Verstappen's team during the last few races. The Brackley-based team will bring a lot of updates to England, so there is still hope on the horizon.
Upgrades Mercedes
Marc Priestley says on his Youtube channel: "It looks like Red Bull have fixed all the weaknesses they used to have. Straightline speed, reducing their drag levels, but still generating enough downforce. You'd say Red Bull are going to look hot at Silverstone. There does come the facet of the new tyres, but I don't think they're going to have much impact, because everyone has tried them by now and no alarm bells went off at the time."
However, Priestley also indicates that all hopes are pinned on the updates that the Silver Arrows will come up with: "It sounds like it could be a relatively big upgrade. I don't know if Red Bull will bring upgrades to Silverstone, but they already have the fastest car. Mercedes now know where their weaknesses are, they know what to focus on. If they have found a few tweaks that can fix their problems it could be a game-changer."
Fight against the clock
Still, Mercedes doesn't have all the time in the world to sit back and see if the upgrades work. "But of course they only have a shorter time to see if the upgrades work. When you bring a big update you need time on the track. You want to see how the new parts work. You only have an hour on Friday morning to do that with a new car, with new tires. So it's going to be a real challenge, but that upgrade could be the thing that keeps Mercedes in the championship. And if that doesn't happen, then we'll already see Red Bull take the season to them," said Priestley.
