Juan Pablo Montoya speaks highly of McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl. Montoya calls the German 'the big thing there' and he expects that Seidl can bring the team to a higher level.

Mentality has changed at McLaren

"Since he started at McLaren, he has changed the mentality of the team and how they approach things. You have a healthy base now," Montoya said in conversation with Motorsport.tv. Montoya and Seidl are no strangers to each other, as when the Colombian drove for Williams-BMW, Seidl himself worked for BMW's F1 project.

After BMW, Seidl moved to Porsche with whom he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times. "He has already done a very good job at Porsche and I worked with him many years ago at BMW. It works great. He has personality and understands what the team really needs," Montoya stated.

McLaren can still grow under Seidl

Montoya thinks there is still a lot more to come for McLaren with Seidl as team boss. "The big target is next year with new cars and new regulations. It all depends on who can build a better car."

Seidl has been working for McLaren since 2019. Under the German's leadership, McLaren has climbed out of the valley it was in for a number of years. Thus, the British team returned to the podium and even managed to finish third among the constructors in 2020.
