Ricciardo on development: 'That's the secret'
Daniel Ricciardo is having a difficult season. While his teammate Lando Norris impressed with a fourth place in the world championship, the Australian has to search for the right set-up. The McLaren driver realizes that like no other.
Ricciardo has switched teams several times in recent years. He spent the early years of Max Verstappen's career with Red Bull Racing, after which he made the switch to Renault. He was with that team for the past two seasons. Then he made the decision that he wanted to go for the challenge at McLaren, so he left Renault again.
Ricciardo needs time at McLaren
The driver is looking to use his strengths and those of the car. "The secret is the balance between the two," he states in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport. "I've had success in this sport for the last ten years and I don't want to suddenly give up everything that got me there. That's why I want to continue to use my instincts. On the other hand, it would be stubborn to say: the way I do it is right."
He is therefore critical of himself. "I have to learn to acknowledge the facts. Because when I look at Lando, I see that the car works very well with a different driving technique. So I remain unbiased and try to adapt. At the same time, I am working with the engineers to tune the car so that we can also use some of my strengths."
